Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA/Shanti) became a partner of project implementation with Ministry of Information of The Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 23 November in Naypyidaw. The Deputy Minister of Information, Mr.Ye Htut participated in the ceremony, and Director General of Information and Public Relations Department Division and Mr. Kyoei Wakabayashi, President of SVA signed on MOU.
The projects are focused on reading promotion for children during 2014-2016 in Pyay District and Tarrawaddy District in Bago Region. There are components such as “Improvement of fourteen Public Libraries”.”Publication of Children’s Books”.”Training workshops for writes, illustrators and editors of children’s books, and so on.
SVA is the first International Organization to exchange MOU with the Ministry of Information. The Deputy Minister of Information, Mr.Ye Htut said at lunch reception, “I have looked at some picture books which SVA published for the Myanmar refugee children in Thailand. Not only for Burmese and Karen languages, we wish you to contribute those efforts in the other ethnic languages as well. Recently, many International NGOs started working in Myanmar, but SVA as a Japanese NGO, is comparatively advantaged because we are able to share the Asian values and cultures each other. We expect SVA to contribute your experience and knowledge of reading promotion and library development to all stakeholders in Myanmar”.
